About Shift4 payments with MAX Pay Global
MAX Pay Global with Shift4 supports Point of Sale (Store Commerce for Windows and Cloud POS) as well as back office payments in Headquarters for Accounts receivable Sales order processing as well as Call center enabled payments. For Retail Point of sale, connection from MAX Pay Global to the device is via the Shift4 Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) software which is normally installed on each point of sale register or shared hardware station, in the case of Cloud POS. The UTG provides support for a range of devices and includes features such as offline store and forward, offline tokenization, voice authorization and a range of other configuration settings allowing the merchant to customize their installation, as well as provides detailed logging and event tracing in the event of a query or support incident.
The UTG contains a sophisticated control panel to manage the device and once installed and configured is left alone and can be run as a Windows service transparent to the Point of sale user. Shift4 also has estate management software that connects with the UTG to manage it remotely.
For Headquarters payments (Sales order processing and Call center), a UTG is not required and MAX Pay Global connects directly from the AOS to the Shift4 Gateway.
When implementing MAX Pay Global with any payment provider, this starts out by setting up a test environement and processing payments normally against the payment provider's test host or simulator.
